Post formats and media limits

Formats

• Instagram post: one photo, one video (published as a reel), or a carousel of 2–10 items. Instagram needs at least one photo or video.
• Instagram reel / story: one video for a reel; one photo or video for a story.
• Facebook: text, photos or one video; a reel takes one video, a story one photo.
• Threads: text, one photo or video, or a carousel.

Files

• Photos: converted to JPG, up to 8 MB. For feed posts they are cropped to the 4:5 – 1.91:1 range Instagram accepts; stories keep their shape.
• Videos: MP4 or MOV, up to 95 MB.
• PDFs (in DMs): up to 25 MB.

Captions: up to 2,200 characters on Instagram, 5,000 on Facebook and 500 on Threads.
